Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU), representing more than 600,000 unionized skilled trades workers across the country, acknowledges the resignation of Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States and extends sincere appreciation for the years of dedicated service she brought to this role.
Her departure marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in Canada’s diplomatic engagement with the United States. Throughout her tenure, she provided steady, skilled leadership during a period that saw significant shifts in the bilateral relationship, serving across four administrations in both countries and offering continuity in moments of geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
Under her guidance, cooperation between Canada and the United States was strengthened on key economic, infrastructure, and energy priorities. Her work ensured that Canada’s interests were clearly and effectively represented, leaving a meaningful and enduring impact on one of our nation’s most important partnerships.
“The ambassador’s leadership in Washington helped safeguard and advance the economic relationship that supports millions of unionized skilled tradespeople on both sides of the border,” shared Sean Strickland, CBTU’s Executive Director. “On behalf of Canada’s skilled trades workforce, we recognize her commitment, her integrity, and the lasting contributions she made to our country.”
As this chapter concludes, we wish to extend our best wishes for success in her future endeavours.
