ACTION ALERT: C-5 Major projects legislation

we need your help

Canada’s Building Trades Unions has been advocating for years with the government for regulatory efficiency to ensure major projects get built faster, and our members get on the job sooner or big projects that create serious, long-term work opportunities.

New legislation currently before the House of Commons – Bill C-5, An Act to enact the Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act and the Building Canada Act will do exactly that.

The proposed legislation will:

  • Create a major projects office, and a list of projects in the ‘national interest’ that will be designated for expedited regulatory approval within two years.
  • Create a ‘one project, one assessment’ process that will see all government environmental and regulatory approvals coordinated properly.
  • Create a framework for Indigenous consultation as an up-front part of the approval process.

This is the kind of game-changing legislation that CBTU has been advocating for. Write to parliamentarians – let them know this bill needs to pass before summer.
