{"id":11051,"date":"2025-11-27T14:41:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T14:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.buildingtrades.ca\/?p=11051"},"modified":"2025-11-27T20:12:03","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T20:12:03","slug":"cbtu-statement-on-ottawa-alberta-mou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.buildingtrades.ca\/en\/cbtu-statement-on-ottawa-alberta-mou\/","title":{"rendered":"CBTU Statement on Ottawa-Alberta MOU"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"11051\" class=\"elementor elementor-11051\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-813d002 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"813d002\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4df1cb2b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4df1cb2b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>Canada\u2019s Building Trades Unions welcomes the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed today by\u00a0Prime Minister Mark Carney\u00a0and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.\u00a0This\u00a0MOU\u00a0has the potential to be a transformational move in Canada\u2019s energy landscape, and a significant source of job creation for Building Trades members, whose skills and experience will be instrumental in making\u00a0future projects\u00a0a reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>The MOU provides a clear approval process under the\u00a0Building Canada Act\u00a0for the construction of a new pipeline that, once complete, would transport at least one million low-emissions barrels per day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Under this\u00a0agreement,\u00a0construction\u00a0will progress\u00a0on\u00a0Pathways Plus, the world\u2019s largest carbon capture,\u00a0utilization, and storage project. Pathways Plus will\u00a0create more than 40,000 jobs annually and generate\u00a0$16 billion\u00a0in GDP while reducing emissions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>The agreement\u00a0also lays the framework for a\u00a0strong industrial carbon pricing agreement for the province and an agreement to lower methane emissions by 75% over the next decade\u00a0to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThis announcement is a key step towards building\u00a0our\u00a0future\u00a0energy infrastructure\u00a0and enhancing Canada\u2019s energy security during a time of economic uncertainty.\u00a0If we\u00a0are\u00a0going to build a new pipeline,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0crucial that we do it the right way.
