Ottawa, June 28, 2011 — Legislation cracking down on crooked immigration consultants will come into force on June 30, 2011, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.At the same time, oversight of the consultant community is being turned over to the newly created Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC). “The Government of Canada has promised to crack down on crooked immigration consultants and their shady practices, and with Bill C-35, we now have the tools,” said the Minister.

Helmets-to-hardhats program for vets in budget: Minister -

By BRYN WEESE, Parliamentary Bureau, Sun MediaOTTAWA -- Tuesday's federal budget will include funding to help veterans get work in construction industry trades, QMI Agency has learned.Veterans Affairs Minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn said Sunday the program will link veterans' skills from the Canadian Forces to apprenticeship and journeyman opportunities in the construction trades.It will be modelled on the eight-year-old United States' "helmets to hardhats" program, which Blackburn said has been "very well received."The transition into civilian life for our veterans is very important," Blackburn said Sunday. "There could be more trades to follow, but we have to start somewhere.

Construction up in October - Statistics Canada -

Statistics Canada release dated Friday November 5, 2010. In October, employment in the goods-producing sector rose by 36,000, led by a gain of 21,000 in construction. Since October 2009, employment in construction has risen by 6.0% (+72,000), one of the fastest growth rates of all major industries.

Gross domestic product by industry -

Real gross domestic product edged down 0.1% in July, the first monthly decline since August 2009. Manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade, construction and forestry all posted decreases.
