Brother Guy Dumoulin dedicated 34 years of his life to the labour movement before his retirement from the Department in December 1997. He began his career as a young man on the tools in St. Lambert, Quebec. He joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters of Joiners of America on April 10, 1964 and it wasn’t long after that his career excelled. He held various positions and titles within the organization both on a local and national level. He was elected to the position of Director for the Quebec BCTC in 1974 where he was instrumental in negotiations.
Appointed Executive Secretary to the Canadian Office of the Building and Construction Trades Department in 1986, he raised the stature of the building trades across Canada and developed a working relationship with all levels of government. He pushed forward the issues and concerns of the working men and women in our industry and because of his hard work and perseverance the industry has benefited. Once interviewed and asked about his accomplishments, Brother Dumoulin said his greatest achievement was the annual DAD’s fund raising drive. This was first established in Canada under his leadership at the Building Trades. The Building Trades continues to hold an annual fundraising event raising thousands of dollars for diabetes research.
